An etched brass kit requiring 3'1" solid spoke wheels (Slaters 7171) or equivalent, coupling, paint and lettering to complete.
They were built in 1915 by the Midland Carriage & Wagon Co. and all were ‘vacuum through pipe’ fitted. Allocated numbers were 62 — 73 inclusive.
They were introduced to work the heavy coal trains from the various valleys served by the Barry Railway and were extremely robust, with a substantial steel underframe and massive internal bracing — the latter not visible though I will be happy to supply a schematic to anyone who does want to include it in their model.
They lasted in service until British Railway days, the last, W35983 being withdrawn at Swindon in 1956.
