Prototype notes
This wagon was built to fulfil two functions, firstly as a timber wagon with the bolster fitted, along with it’s carrier, and secondly to
carry ore, using the one plank dropside function. It is probable that the bolster would have been removed during the latter operation,
perhaps with the carrier as well.
It was 15’ long, 7’7” wide with dropsides of 12”, giving a height over the rail of 5’2”. With the bolster fitted, this increased to 5’7.75”,
the length over buffers being 18’4”. The mean tare weight was 5 tons, 13cwts, and 3’2” open spoke wheels were originally fitted, though
these may have become superseded by plain spoke over the years.
500 were built to order G167 in 1898 at St. Rollox, to drawing 8896, and it is interesting to note that they were fitted with screw
couplings.
Kit notes
This kit comprises mainly whitemetal parts with dropsides and other detail in etched brass.
Requires Wheels/couplings/paint and lettering to complete.
